Illinois' updated SOPPA legislation went into effect on July 1, 2021. As part of your district's SOPPA compliance, you may need information about FUSE's Privacy Policy, or the websites we utilize in FUSE.
Our Privacy Policy
We have developed FUSE to meet the strictest privacy standards and protocols. Our Privacy Policy was last updated in June 2022. We comply with national and international privacy standards, including GDPR, FERPA, and COPPA. Since we are based in IL, our policy also addresses SOPPA.
Below you'll find the direct links to the privacy compliance statements of independent, browser-based software that students use while working on FUSE Challenges. This list may satisfy your district's SOPPA compliance needs.
SOPPA Updates for Illinois & Chicago Public Schools
Chicago Public Schools
In Spring 2021, CPS opened an RFQ for "Educational Technology Products", to approve a pool of pre-qualified vendors. FUSE was recommended for adoption, and is fully approved for use in CPS. Our contract includes a provision for use of the various third party websites utilized in FUSE that require logins.
IL-NDPA
In June 2021, FUSE moved to a standard Data Privacy Agreement for partner schools. Because we are located in IL, our default data agreement is the IL-NDPA-V1.0a. Districts that wish to sign on to this agreement may do so by completing Exhibit E and submitting it to Northwestern for signature. The originating LEA is East Maine School District 63. You will find our agreement linked on their list of approved vendors. As of 9/1/2022, 11 districts in IL have signed on to the IL-NDPA.

Online resources which require a student sign-in
FUSE has reviewed the privacy policy for each of our recommended online resources, and we are confident that these sites adhere to national and international privacy standards. That being said, each school district is responsible for ensuring SOPPA compliance. For your reference, below we provide the links to the privacy compliance statements of independent browser-based software that your students use while working on FUSE challenges.
If your district does not allow students to log in to a particular site, we encourage you to consider a shared account, where the facilitator creates a general account that students can use to log in and access the tool. For more information, please visit our shared accounts article.

Our tech director said Clipchamp will not sign SOPPA. He suggested we use WeVideo instead.
