Today we’re proud to release our latest challenge designed in partnership with Siemens Building Technologies: Smart Castle.
Smart Castle gets to the heart of what building technology engineers do everyday: designing systems that keep building occupants comfortable, safe, and secure. But since this is FUSE, its a bit more fun than that: check out the trailer above to see what we mean.
What do we love about Smart Castle? For one, it takes complex tech (arduinos, motion sensors, phototransistors, servo motors, audio sensors, etc) and makes it approachable and relevant. We also love that this challenge seamlessly blends electrical engineering and coding to create truly engaging products (who doesn’t want to turn drawbridge into an automatic door?). Most of all, we love the amount of choice available in Smart Castle. Not only does Smart Castle have the traditional FUSE levels, but now students can choose from multiple options within each level, meaning that there are over 18 different ways that your students can choose to customize their Smart Castles.
Smart Castle is open to any school at the Innovate level. If you want to begin to offer Smart Castle but don’t yet have the required kit, please reply to this email to learn more.
How to Get Started with Smart Castle:
- If your school started FUSE this year and is at the Innovate level, you should already have the Smart Castle kit and the required software (Arduino IDE) should already be installed on your computers. Head over to your toolkit to turn on the challenge and make it available to your students.
- If your school started implementing FUSE prior to this school year and is at the Innovate level, you can choose to purchase the kit. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
